Lotus Lake – Maceday Lake Waterford Michigan

Maceday Lake and Lotus Lake are two different lakes, but they are joined together.  If you did not know the lakes you would never know they were two separate lakes.  They are wonderful all sports lakes that are large enough for any water sports enthusiast.  The total combined acreage is 419 acres. Maceday Lake is about 234  or 252 acres (depending on what source you believe)  Maceday Lake is  completely in Waterford, Michigan. There is public access for the lake that is located off Williams Lake Rd north of M-59.  Maceday Lake’s DNR

Maceday Lake access

Off Williams Lake Rd North of M-59

lake access is just east of Maceday Lake Road.  (On the south side of Maceday Lake) There is a paved Maceday DNR access ramp that allow 16 parking spots.

There are two islands in the lake totaling 21 acres, so the surface area is 231 acres. It is connected to Lotus Lake through a shallow canal on the north end. Tree stumps in this area indicate the lake was several feet lower in the recent past than it is now. The level was probably raised when the dam was installed in Waterford to create Van Norman Lake.  Maceday Lake has 18888 feet of shoreline, not including the islands. The elevation of the lake is 966 feet above sea level. The lake is in the Clinton River basin.

Maceday Lake Fishing Waterford Michigan

Looking for the big one!

Most of Lotus Lake is located in Waterford Township, but the northern part of the lake is in Independence Township (more commonly known as Clarkston).  Maceday Lake is about 117 feet deep.

When we say Maceday and Lotus Lakes are all sports lakes it means that any size boat, gas powered or electric motored boats are allowed.  Jet skis, sail boats, fishing boats are all allowed.  Water skiing, knee boarding, wakeboarding are just some of the many activities that will be happening in the summer.  But the summer is not the only time to enjoy the lake.  In the winter you will see ice fishermen, motorcycles, four wheelers, and snowmobilers along with ice skaters and cross country skiers.

Maceday Lake is a one of Southeastern Michigan’s designated trout lakes.  I have driven by the lake and have seen fish jumping out of the water.  I have yet to fish the lake myself, but I have heard the fishing is good.   Every year since 1995 they have been stocking the lake.  Most years they are stocking it with Rainbow Trout.  Though they have stocked it with splake and walleye too. The  lake was stocked in 2011 with 1,000 lake trout with some of the fish being up to 18 inches long and ranging in age from 2-4 years. Maceday Lake was also stocked with 12,000 rainbow trout in 2010 and another 12,760 rainbow trout in April, 2010. It was stocked with 15,000 splake (What is a splake?  It is a brook trout and lake trout cross) in March of 2009 and 13,300 in April of 2010.
