Let’s go boating on Lake Sherwood

Lake Sherwood in Commerce Michigan is a man made lake that is all sports.  It is what I would call a subdivision lake because most of the homes are very similar in exterior (brick) and age.  It is not like so many of our Metro Detroit lakes.  So many of the lakes in Southeastern Michigan were weekend getaways for Detroiters in the early 1920’s to 1950’s.  So there are many small cottages on some of the lakes.  So you can have a real nice brick house next to a small 2 bedroom 700 square foot cottage.  Some lake home buyers just do not like that.  They want a nice house next door to the home they are buying.

Lake Sherwood homes are ranches, colonials, and split level homes for the most part.  Lake Sherwood is a subdivision of waterfront homes, located in Commerce Township, Michigan.    There are quite a few homes that are off the lake too, but have access to the lake.

Lake Sherwood homes were mainly built during the years 1958 to 1998.  Though there are a few that have been built later.  The homes have:

  • 2 + car garages
  • 3-5 Bedrooms
  • 2.1 + bathrooms
  • Basements. (some walkout)
  • Exterior of the homes are brick, cedar, brick/vinyl, brick/wood
  • Square footage of the homes range from 1400 – 5100.

This lake is 258 acres, which also includes several canals, and has a maximum depth of 20 feet.  For such a large lake, one of the benefits of living in a waterfront home on Lake Sherwood is that it is still private.   You are about a 10 minute drive to downtown Milford.  So restaurants, shopping, and all the city conveniences is a very short ride away.

12 Oaks Mall and Novi is less than a 20 minute ride.  So for the person who wants to live on a lake yet be close to all the city conveniences a home on Lake Sherwood may be a great choice for you.  I-96 is an easy drive too!
