First thing I recommend you to do is to ask questions if you don’t understand or don’t know what to do. Every real estate transaction follows a certain procedure and time line. But the little things in the transaction that may be totally different than your parents buying a home, or one of your friends transaction.  Buying a lake home is different.  It is about the view sometimes.  It may be the lake frontage, the lake bottom, the amount of parking, or even the size of the lot on the lake size.   Some of these answer to these questions we won’t know until we go out there and see the property.  So ask every question you have. If you are laying in bed, or at home, or work and a question comes to mind….write it down, and call your realtor to find the answer. A good realtor is not going to mind the questions at all. I know that I want my clients knowledgeable, and stress free.

SEARCH MICHIGAN LAKE HOMES FOR SALE

Second thing I will tell you is that your wants and needs in a lake home will change as you start looking. Your criteria will become clearer as you start seeing more waterfront properties. Share what you like and don’t like with your realtor. That’s how I learn what you really like.  I may know of other homes on other lakes in Oakland Countythat fit your wants and desires. You are not wishy washy….you are just narrowing down what you want in a home.

Let me share a short story with you. I had clients that started out looking at homes that were 1400 square feet and bigger on a big all sports lake. However as time went on they found that they could find smaller houses that fit their needs that were more updated than the 1400 square foot homes. Ultimately they found a home that was 1050 square feet, but it was on a lake that they had relatives on.  There were other lakefront homes that were nicer or just as nice that they passed up. The lake that their relatives were on was ultimately was the major factor in deciding what house they liked and bought.

Were they wishy washy?….not in anyway. They subconsciously knew what they wanted. It just took a little time to come out.  So don’t worry that you don’t know a lot, read, ask questions, and work with a good realtor.
